Saturday! Just 16 hours left of the work week, I am pleased! It was cool and misty at the recycle center all night. I read the NY Times and part of Jonathan Kellerman's novel: "The Murder Book" Pretty good start.
GW Bush is in Poland. I wish him well. Euro Politicos trash him because it's good copy. Frustrated folk over there need a good enemy and Texas George fits the idea of a moron, fronting for cowboy business types. But GW is no moron. He has learned well and is a world class leader. I regret he's not a liberal, but I'll get over that.

How does a 52 year old meet new friends? The bar scene is out and sex clubs are a drag. Viagra liberated all the really old guys and they lust after anything under 75. I need good conversation and something that counts. San Francisco is a tough town to meet anyone in. You really have to work on it. People are cynical and fearful of predators. Out of state Troopers come here, seduce the locals, and then lure them to a state where they can be arrested on morals charges. SF folk know the game.
I'm sleepy. Enjoy the day!

Friday!
The FCC is under siege from left and right. Nevertheless, on Monday they will do as Karl Rove, Richard Mellon Scafe, and Pat Robertson tells them. Michael Powell, FCC Chairman and the Sec of State's son, was put there to do as he is told, not to think for himself. While I do not share the Bush agenda, I understand the political game and will be fair in my comments. In 2009, the Demos will return and they will overturn all this conservative action and do things their way. Politics in America is just a game of tit for tat. Rival gangs agree to elections rather than violent revolution. The Bushies came to DC on the largesse of the Religious Right and Texas business interests. That's life.
Clear Channel and other media giants are not ever going to be a right wing tyranny for long. Radio listeners are very fickle. Ask Rush Limbaugh. You must be entertaining as well as consistent and that is hard to do. Advertisers are weary of ideological labels. A radio station that is tagged as leftist or right wing suffers quickly. People hate anything that smacks of calculation or control, they flee any sign of these things. TV thrives on novelty. Fox News is popular right now because it caters to "Angry White Guys" there's a kind of naughty thrill in telling friends you actually watch Fox News. It upsets most adults and it allows older white men to engage in harmless mischief. But in a year or so the novelty will fade and people will move on. In the 1960s Joe Pyne was Michael Savage and in the 1980s Morton Downey was a proto Rush Limbaugh.
In a highly structured, competative culture like the United States, there are few outlets for rebellion. Rock 'n Roll was once rebellious and thus much desired by every kid resenting the life of regimentation ahead of them. Rap serves a new generation with the same intent. The FCC can do what it wants, but the trends of history will prevail. As Boomers age and resist the slow march to the grave they will makes noise. In time the FCC will rein in the huge conglomerates, if the public rejection of them does not.
Remember, MacDonalds is the biggest burger chain on Earth. They are as good as ever, but the cycle they started 50 years ago is over. Who wants to eat in their grandfathers burger joint? Clear Channel already has a reputation for arch conservative ideas. A new Rap or Rock group will come along and be ignored by Clear Channel and an entire generation will turn against the media giant and they will crumble as advertisers walk away along with the general public. In 20 years, MacDonalds will be gone so will Clear Channel, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, and Fox TV. The Wheel Keeps Turning.

Hello Thursday!
Just out of bed, read a few Blogs. They are a great cup of Joe. Andrew Sullivan is ranting again, let him be. I recoment Rachel Lucas, there's link on your right, for her. Nevertheless here is her comments on Mike Tyson and our societies double standards about Thugs and the things they say!

Tyson chickenturd By Rachel Lucas 5/29/03

Mike Tyson just gets more charming as the years pass, no?
The former boxing champion once again denied he raped
Desiree Washington in 1991 in an Indianapolis hotel room,
but told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren that he'd like to now.
"I just hate her guts. She put me in that state, where I don't
know," Tyson said in an interview for The Pulse, scheduled to
air Thursday night. "I really wish I did now. But now I really
do want to rape her."

Ah, yes, eminently believable. I suggest he be thrown back in prison just for
being such a foul and hateful ear-chewing pig.
Since that's not likely, how about something more pragmatic? Everybody
shun him. Boycott everything involving him and make a big ugly stink about
it. Come on, this is a man who has not only been convicted of rape, but now
says he would like to rape somebody. And we give him a forum and millions
of bucks? And then we wonder what's wrong with kids?
I know the guy isn't exactly a hero to most of us, but look. Everybody I know
completely freaked out when Natalie Maines (the Dixie Chick) said she was
ashamed Dubya is from Texas. There was an uproarious spasm of indignation
and declarations of offense. Mike Tyson, Convicted Rapist, says he wants to
rape someone, and I'm hearing....pretty much nothing.
Maybe I'm missing it and just not reading enough blogs or news sites. Or
maybe not and nobody cares because we expect Tyson to say stupid crap.
The thing is, though, I don't think this latest bit of verbal diarrhea was
"stupid crap." I'm thinking more along the lines of "a vile declaration of
hatred and the expression of a desire to rape someone."
It really annoys me when nobody else gets pissed off about stuff like this.

Fox TV will never be accused of properiety. Anything for a buck, eh Roger?

Work awaits me. I'm reading several books at once, general restlessness is the cause. I have been looking at Stephen King's "Night Shift" Dark tales. Good fun!

Well, it's Wednesday again! Damn thing keeps coming. We get past it and think we're safe and all at once Tuesday melts away and there it is, Wednesday! My guess, the Bushies are behind this Wednesday business! Did the Clinton's have Wednesdays? I think not! They only had weekends with maybe one or two Mondays and once in 1998 an actual Tuesday! I've no idea why Wednesday keeps showing up. Bush said he would lead this nation to greatness! No one would be left behind! Well, why are we here at Wednesday again! Haven't we suffered enough? Michael Savage is allowed to wander the streets unattended, there's Wednesday right there! Would you willingly admit on live TV that you think Savage is anything other than a Wednesday? Would you face down God and say "Well..." I accept that there has to be stability, and we must carry on, but frankly darling, this Wednesday foolishness, well, you know the drill!

Back to the recycling center tonight. I don't want to go! I am reading the weird but interesting rants of Gerald Massey. He was a English poet and alleged Egyptologist who says Jesus the man is unknown and the four Gospels are rank Egyptian myth adopted to Christian needs. Huh? Well, there are plenty of instances in life where angry men take a whole lot of unrelated facts and build very interesting structures. But in the end these structures are seen as the eccentric edifices they are.
I agree up to a point with Mr. Massey. Jesus was anything but a simple carpenter. He was no country bumpkin. But the consequence of Egyptian lore? Excuse my snicker. There was and is acknowledged a distinct Egyptian influence in Jewish thinking (Think Moses, Philo) and the Christians at first rejected Hellenistic themes, until Paul arrives and John writes his surreal Gospel that is chock a block Greek theos and Logos and a whiff of Egyptian theology. Holy Re! But friends, the folks 2000 years ago only had the Akkadian, Egyptians and Greeks and a smattering of Rome. America and the modern world did not yet exist. Oh well!

It's warm in the city.

Local #75,(ILWU Security union local) and PMA (Pacific Maritime Assoc) are at loggerheads. No union contract yet. The ILWU negotiating team is fighting with itself and PMA has no new ideas. Here is a good example of foolish men waging a pointless fight before a smug giant (Think Ashcroft) who will devourer them soon enough. PMA and ILWU are archaic scraps from another time. PMA is tired, (Reactionary white guys) lacking in modern direction:(1950's mentality) The Japanese inovate for them. And the ILWU local #75 is finally just a one man show. The Waterfront needs a modern, (Educated, literate) skilled and responsible security force. The group there today is friendly well intentioned (uneducated, functional illiterate) and decent, but lacking in sophistication and deliverable skills. If ever a bomb goes off, these kids will run like hell! PMA will run away as well.
The predatory thugs in DC will soon realize what a delicious truffle awaits them in Oakland and that will be it! Ashcroft will hire a druggie to set off a gasoline bomb, Bush will give a frightening speech, and Gray Davis will sputter and Jerry Brown will shit his pants and then the long running gravy train will end. My friends will end up unemployed or in jail. PMA will vanish in a flash and retired Coast Guard will patrol the port and the terminals will be Texas owned and operated. PMA boys will be hiding in Costa Rica and maybe Miami Beach. Enough rant!
Have a sweet day! Avoid those Wednesdays!
Life goes on.

Today is Tuesday May 27th 2003.
Twenty eight years ago this morning I was hitchhiking across America. I was just 24 years old. At a Skelly Truck Stop south of St. Louis on the junction going to Interstate Seventy (Much of I70 was yet to be built) I bought a green bug for $1.30 This little green fluff ball became a green tomato named Rufus. He refused to be a bug. I still have him. Over the years I've had a number of critters but Rufus has out lasted them all. He's a good friend. Tough, a bit of a reactionary, definitely Republican. Rufus lives a life. In 1999 I bought a red tomato, named her Lucy and Rufus finally got a sweetheart. They are quite content sitting on top a GE radio on a book case in my studio. Some fantasies never die, they just get better and grow in their personality. Rufus is just a toy, but he has been a helpful friend in good times as well as not so good times.

Today is Monday May 26th 2003
San Francisco had a decent day, some fog, a little rain in the early morning, right along the coast. I was at the Recycling Center, doing my Friday. Over the weekend I found a hug green and blue octopus in the trash. A huge Ty toy probably cost $200. It was unhurt but dirty as hell. Sunday morning I liberated from the trash pile and set it free on the harbor. It floated for a few minutes and then became water logged and sank to the bottom of the bay. I am a sucker for Urban Pets. I refuse to use the Stuffed Animal words. I feel that these toys represent something of importance in all of us. We have them not just to hug in moments of stress but because they remind us there is a chance at goodness in this life. Older societies had household gods, icons of various incarnations and personal talisman. Stuffed toys are modern idols, icons, and worry beads. This Octopus was too big for a child, but it wasn't too big to earn a measure of respect.
In America we are profoundly affected by the myth of what is male or female. We are so locked into expectations that we forfeit huge parts of our personalities because we are afraid of what others will think. Toys are inanimate objects, symbols and nothing else. A cross or a Star of David are things, but they mean so much to us. The US Flag is only cloth, but for us it is friends lost and a national symbol of our ideas and convictions. We will not allow the flag to be assaulted. Is a bear any less important? The bear is a toy but toys are sacred. They speak to the world in an immediate way about who and what we are. To abuse a toy, even some cheap plastic thing is wrong. Throw it away, if need be, better give it to another person.
As strange as it sounds, we will be judged in history by our toys and how we treated them as well as how we treated criminals, corrupt politicians, and the insane who walk our streets. Great buildings are expected. Winning wars is no historical glory. A Teddy bear and it's condition says more about a person than all their wealth or power.

The United States is starting to realize Saddam was a empty shell. He played Cat and Mouse with the US and he played GW Bush's administration for a bunch of wild cowboys. Deep down GW Bush must regret the entire affair. Kids are dead and violent thugs rule Baghdad at night.
Hussein was a gang leader and he had a very good bluff. He was in the end a foolish man who lured the Alpha Power of modern times into a fools game. He used cruelty and terror to subjugate his country. He squandered what small wealth there was on monuments and ego enhancement. Bastard that he was!
Now we have Iraq and what will we do with it? I haven't a clue. Look at "Talking Point Memo" and see what Josh Marshall has to say. He covers the details well.
Tonight I'll download hits from the 70's.
Please look at Illuminism. blogspot.com and Audase. I'm developing all three sites. I'll have proper links up this week.

Saturday, May 24, 2003

Hello America. It's Saturday. I had a bout of food poisoning today. Bad cream in the coffee? I hope that was it. Was it the soup I ate last night at work? Better not be! I can't afford a repeat.
The country is on another Terror alert. More foolishness! When will the Republicans weary of this childish game? Al Qaeda is real and we should be diligent. But asking impoverished states communities in the middle of a double dip recession to cough up more dollars for this "Fear Campaign" is unjust and should be stopped. The Federal Government makes promises but never fulfills them. NYC was promised three hundred million dollars in June of 2002. Just eighty million has arrived. The NY Times has given grim account of this string of broken pledges and letters of intent.
The Bushies appear to get the willies about once every six weeks. Some idiot sends a nasty Email somewhere in Europe and the Feds read it and shit their drawers and then we get the bill.
NYC and SF are already broke and they don't need further abuse.
In the past the CIA/DIA and NSA and FBI handled bad guys and we read about it years later. The CIA watched rogue states and when needed decapitated them and we hardly noticed. If this were 1963, CIA would have assassinated Saddam Hussein and his psychopath sons and there'd be a small notice in the NY Times or maybe Fortune. The world ignored these nasty necessities. There was an understanding that "Gangster States" (Banana Republics) were in occasional need of tweaking.
The Bushies use these wars against the Axis of Evil to distract the populist while gutting regulatory agencies and reduce Federal Largesse to a shell. (Wagging the Dog as national policy) The GOP, now a bastion of former reactionary Democrats and racists know nothings celebrate infantile militarism while gutting a century of social and political progress.
All this will pass. Abe Lincoln once warned about fooling the majority. We're learning that lesson again.
The Bushies will be re-elected and then they will get the surprise of their lives. A new generation of predators watching and learning. They are liberal in their thinking.
Just as reactionary predators took over the GOP in the 1970s, and turned a once proud party into a place of obstructionism and retrenchment these "New Predators" will come, take over the gutted Democrat Party. They will appeal to the angry intellectuals and the social agitators. Burdened by a heavy Federal hand Hollywood will finance these "New Radicals" and the Universities, bitter over years of anti science anti math and every silly creationist fantasy, they will simmer and stew and churn out "Angry young Men and Women" The teens and twenties will see a serious reform era as the wheel turns again, the pendulum swings from the far right toward the left.
Laugh if you want. But the wheel of history never stops turning. Those on top today will be on the bottom soon enough.
Eventually the Bushies will over play the "Al Qaeda" card and the reaction will come. The Bushies are already planting the seeds of rebellion in Iraq and sow the poison in Iran and Afghanistan. The world will not suffer too long the Texas of reducing every complexity to a snide joke about "Liberals" or tales of a whorehouse!
Humanity is on track toward creating a consumer civilization. The Bushies dream of a planetary Texas. It will not fly any better than the Kennedy dream of a planetary Massachusetts!

I live here, and I resent the way the United States has become a know nothing culture that loves anything that upsets Europe or angers everyone else.
I am bitter over how we are squandering our chance at greatness. We have such a wonderful chance to lead the world in a positive way. We have a chance to reinvent world civilization and assure genuine opportunity for all kinds of persons. Civil and Human rights as well as a genuine tolerance has been lost to pointless partisanship.and religious bigotry.
China and Brazil are watching, taking notes and we'll be hearing from them.

We're having much fog. I'll need to wander into it and find a laundry.
Enjoy your holiday.

I created a new Blog today. Arkidess.blogspot.com
In 1973 I knew a teenage hooker in Atlanta. She was unlike any human being I had ever known before. She was about as self contained as you can get. I was amazed at her independence and her ability to see everything in such a matter of fact way. Was she a psychopath? I have no idea.
All my life I have been fascinated by people who seem separate from society. I live by the rules because I'm too fat and easily winded not to. I watch predators (Karl Rove) and get a boner over their outrageous antics. I have no idea where Arkidess will go. Don't ask where the name came from.
Blogger is changing the furniture again.

Today is Wednesday May 21st. It was warm, and a bit breezy at times in San Francisco. Despite hard times, there’s plenty of new construction south of Market Street. I saw new cafĂ©’s and lots of happy faces in them. SF is a haven for the modern dreamer and serious capitalist.

Neal Boartz has come to us on KNEW. (910AM) This is a bad thing. Boartz is a sophistrist who panders to emotions and prejudice by using calculated abuse and inflammatory wording in his conversation. He got his start on WRNG Radio in Atlanta in 1970. He was a kid then. Big mouth subtle bigot and smooth anti Semitic. He baited anyone who supported Jimmy Carter and in 1971 Boartz abused Carter’s selection for the US Senate David Gambrel, (To serve out the late Sen. Richard B. Russell’s term) a man he’d never met and had not a clue about what the man stood for. Boartz just made it up as he went along.
Respectable members of Atlanta’s always nervous business community protested and WRNG got him to change the subject.
He became proficient in the code language of the “Old South” ruining good conversation with innuendo, insinuation, and declarations designed to stumble the caller and place them in an awkward position of feeling they were being cornered and not understanding exactly why!
Boartz still made the occasional faux paw and had to back off. He was taken to task a number of times by WRNG Radio management for his antics. But like all predators he developed a following of wannabe thugs and spear-carriers. He was good for ratings for a station that only operated during daylight hours.
In May of 1971 he foolishly defended the Murderer, Lt. William Cally of the infamous My Li tragedy in Vietnam. While he never acknowledged it, that stunt ended any chance of a serious career on national radio or with the networks. (NBC’s Monitor was still around and Mutual Radio was still strong. ABC’s huge radio entertainment network was in it’s infancy)
Boartz became known as a shill for the emerging “New Right” as former Governor Hal Suit called them. Suit defined the New Right, as humiliated southern moderates who detested the McGovern Democrats as scornful enemies, and the Older Rockefeller Republicans as liberal fools. Nixon’s “Red Meat” Politics made them uncomfortable. VP Agnew’s embarrassed them with his over the top rhetoric. The “New Right” was generally evangelical in belief but not intense as they’d be later on. Boartz sensed the political tides were changing and he studied the mood and after a few false starts got on the wave and has been there ever since.

2

Boartz left radio for a short time in the middle 1970s when Ludlow Porch, a local character (From Snellville) became Atlanta's new wunderkind. But after a few years of legal work in DeKalb County Boartz came back and has been engaging in calculated horse shit ever since. Attacking Federal programs with misleading and carefully distorted facts and corrupted truth, engaging in cheap shots and attacking any caller that attempted to set the record straight. He was and is a Jayson Blair of radio.
He played the anti bussing crowed, engaged in gratuitous attacks on anyone who simply wanted a better society.
He savored the opportunity to trash serious women and learned the misogyny game well.

In the 1980s he made enemies among younger “New Right” advocates who saw him as a needless agitator and bomb thrower. He reminded them of older white men obsessed with race as it was in the 1940s and 1950s. Boartz has never forgiven Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King jr. He still thinks King was a Communist (IE Soviet) tool recruited at BU. Boartz still defines Blacks as simpletons the make and he rejects the idea of the next generation (GW BUSH) that race does not matter.
Boartz expounds the notion that there is a conspiracy of liberals, blacks, and jews, to defeat the honest citizen and plunder the United States. He ignores or is it self impose tunnel vision, the predatory ambitions of men like him.

In the 1990s Bill Clinton’s indiscretions and the coming of “Rant Radio”, gave Boartz a new life. He refined his methods but not his theology or neo Confederate rejection and obstructionism. Like other Southern Partisans he is locked in that mindset of resistance to Yankee intellectualism. He sees 19th Century Transcendentalism as a scam to lure "Pure" Southern intellects into a chimera of exploitation and Federal occupation through social programs and efforts to remedy poverty. Boartz espouses the long lost and defeated John Birch mentality, wrapped in the lingo of our times. New words, same old fantasy about Us and Them. Boartz still weeps over Appomattox and he dreams of a sweet by and by where the South was pure, safe, and proud and worthy in Gods eye.

Today on KNEW he baited callers on “Welfare as plundering” and trashed the Democrats for honest disagreements on taxes and the War in Iraq. As always, like any bully in a schoolyard, he would not shut up and he employs all of Robert Ringer’s “Winning Through Intimidation” tactics in a way that the author never imagined.
Boartz is wealthy enough that he need not care and he dose need a job anywhere. He is a silver haired thug who simply enjoys taking peoples sincere ideas and trashing them.He offers no alternative, except plantation servitude. He has no new ideas that reflect 21st Century realities. He is still chasing the Beatniks and Hippies. He still smarts over the Jitterbug crowed. Hell, he's still pissed off at Teddy Roosevelt for having Booker T. Washington at the White House!

3

When you call talk radio you should be smart enough to know there will be no decency as it is. Hate Radio is a forty billion dollar business. As Boomers age and the X Generation gets older as well, the cheap thrill of vetting over the airwaves becomes a powerful narcotic. Unfortunately it defeats rational discourse and reduces public conversation to a unhappy whine.

Neal Boartz has wasted his talent and professional life. He has shamed his parent’s hard effort.
KNEW will not gain much. Michael Savage already has the cheap seats around here. KNEW will falter in a few months. But Boartz will be indifferent; as he has always been.

Hello America and the world! It's Tuesday!
My Illuminism site is now up and running: http://illuminism.blogspot.com It features a chapter from Alvin B Kuhn's wonderful book published in 1969, A Rebirth for Christianity. Excellent and free of prejudice or personal rant. It is part of the basis for my new Third Wave Theology: Illuminism.

Bad week in Israel. The Hamas crowed it crazy with fear. The Palestinian PM Mr. Abas is set for improved relations with the Israeli's and it does not float with the radicals who dread peace and the low wage jobs they would be locked into. Who wants to flip burgers? Revolution is much more fun!
Times are changing. The US is making a mess in Iraq but that will pass. The future is taking shape and it is an end to pointless terrorism.
Ariel Sharon is an old man, he will be gone in a year or so. The Israeli Business community is tired of war and a rotten economy. They will finance a GW Bush style candidate.
The world is Turing away from terror because it became too much of a distraction, the economy faltered and every nation is hurting. The arms agents can see that too much violence cuts sales. Everything must be balanced!

Warm day in San Francisco. I plan a nice walk later this evening.
More later!
